How to Induce the Red Ring of Death

The Xbox 360, although known for its impressive graphics and game play, is also known for the infamous "red ring of death." This is a red circular light that comes up around the power button. Essentially, if the red ring of death appears, your Xbox 360 is dead and there isn&'t much you can do about it. However, if you know what induces the red ring of death, you know how to avoid it.

  Place the Xbox 360 on the carpet. When on the carpet, the system is more likely to suck up dust, lint, hair and other debris, blocking the system&'s vents, causing the Xbox to heat up and possibly bringing on the red ring of death.

  Play the Xbox 360 for long periods of time. If you don&'t let the system cool every few hours, the Xbox is likely to overheat, causing damage.

  Block the air flow vents on the rear of the Xbox 360. When these vents are blocked, the gaming platform is more likely to overheat and bring on the red ring of death.

  Set the Xbox 360 right side up. This blocks all of the vents and air flow points on the system. Performing this action locks the heat in the gaming system, causing the device to overheat.
