How to Install a Game on a XBox 360

The Xbox 360 comes with a very useful feature: the ability to take a complete game and install it to the console&'s hard drive, allowing the system to read it from the hard drive instead of the disc. This cuts down on loading times and makes your console much quieter. However, you will still need to put the game disc in the drive every time you want to play the game, thus avoiding easy piracy (think of the game disc as the "key" to play the game after it&'s installed). All you need is an Xbox 360 with suitable hard drive space and and the game disc you wish to install.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the console with a controller attached and insert your game disc into the drive.

    • 2

Go to the Xbox 360 dashboard by pressing the center logo button on your controller. Usually the game boots up right away, so you&'ll need to manually get back to the Xbox 360 dashboard.

    • 3

Scroll down to the "My Xbox" menu, then scroll over to the right until you reach the "Game Library" option. Press the "A" button on your controller to select it.

    • 4

Find your game on the menu that pops up and select it with the "Y" button, then highlight and select "Install to Hard Drive" with the "A" button. The console will then rip the game to your hard drive, a process that can take several minutes. Once finished, every time you play the game your console will read the information off the hard drive instead of the disc.
