How to Clear the Hard Drive Cache Code for the Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 video game system is regularly updated with system and game updates. These updates help solve gameplay issues, bugs and exploits found in games after they are released. The Xbox 360 saves these updates into a system cache folder. When they are installed, they can often have unintended or undesired consequences. It is possible to clear the cache folder through the system "Dashboard." Doing so will remove all previously installed game updates.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the following button sequence using your Xbox 360 controller while in the "Dashboard": X, X, left bumper, right bumper, X and X. This will cause a system maintenance prompt to issue on your screen.

    • 2

Choose the "Yes" option when the system maintenance prompt asks if you wish to continue.

    • 3

Push the "B" button to move back into the main menu of the "Dashboard" once the system notifies you that your cache is clear. All game updates are now cleared from your hard drive.
