How to Troubleshoot a Slow Xbox Hard Drive

Microsoft&'s Xbox 360 console supports the use of a hard drive for saving game progress, downloading demos and trailers and even installing full games. The last thing you want is your hard drive slowing down, hindering the enjoyment of your content, but over time hard drives can accumulate junk data that needs to be cleared off to optimize performance. Cleaning your Xbox 360&'s system cache is a quick and easy way to ensure that your hard drive runs at top speed.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the Xbox 360 console. Navigate to the My Xbox screen within the dashboard and then select "System Settings."

    • 2

Scroll down to the "Memory" option on the System Settings menu and press the "A" button on your controller. This will bring up a list of all connected storage devices for your Xbox 360 console.

    • 3

Highlight the "Hard Drive" option and then press the "Y" button on your controller to enter the Device Options. Select the "Clear System Cache" option and then select "Yes" when it prompts you to begin performing maintenance.

    • 4

Wait until the maintenance is complete, which will take a few minutes. Once complete, your system cache will be cleared, which should resolve any hard-drive slowdown.
