How to Copy Game Discs to Your Xbox 360 Hard Drive

Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles are distributed with hard drives that can hold game data and other files associated with player use. Copying an Xbox 360 game DVD to your console&'s hard drive is a built-in feature of the system&'s main menu. No additional software is required.

      Power on the Xbox 360 console and press the "Eject" button on the DVD drive. Insert a game disc and close the disc tray. Allow the game to load for a few seconds until the "Play Game" icon in the Xbox&'s main menu ("Dashboard") becomes colored and has game artwork behind it.

      Press "Y" on the Xbox 360 controller and a new menu appears on the screen. Select "Install Game to Hard Drive" and press "A." The Xbox 360 console begins copying the game disc to the hard drive. This takes approximately 30 minutes.

      Once the game has copied to your console&'s hard drive, press the power button on the machine and turn it off. Then turn the system back on. The game you copied to the 360&'s hard drive is selectable in the "Dashboard" under "Games > Hard Drive."
