How to Backup an Xbox 360 HDD

All Xbox 360 models feature multiple, built-in USB ports where gamers can connect a USB memory device to store data. Players can store game data, downloadable content and even titles downloaded from the Xbox LIVE Arcade directly to their USB memory device for safe keeping. Using a USB memory device, you can store up to 16GB (gigabytes) of data from your Xbox 360&'s hard drive.

Instructions

  1. Individual Files

      Connect a USB memory device to any of the USB ports on your Xbox 360 console.

      Power on your Xbox 360 by pressing the "Guide" button on the center of any controller synced to the console.

      Scroll to the "My Xbox" section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard (home menu).

      Choose "System Settings."

    • 5

      Choose "Memory."

    • 6

      Select "Hard Drive" from the list of storage devices.

      Choose which type of data you want to back up to the USB memory device.

      Choose the file you want copied to the USB memory device.

      Select "Copy."

      Select the USB memory device as the copy location.

    Multiple Files

      Follow Step 1 through 6 from Section 1 above.

      Press the "Y" button on the controller to initiate the File Transfer Wizard.

      Select the USB memory device as the destination.

      Choose the types of data to be transferred to the USB memory device. Deselect entire data types by pressing "X" on the controller. Highlight a type and press "A" to examine and edit the files to be transferred individually.

      Highlight the "Start" option and press the "A" button on the controller to begin the data transfer.
