Improve your wireless connection. If your Xbox 360 connects wirelessly to your Internet router, make sure the console is placed as physically close as possible to the router. There should be no thick stone walls or solid objects between the console and router. If possible, switch to a wired connection, as this offers a stronger, steadier online link.
Disable other devices sharing the connection. If your Internet signal is spread too thin, your Xbox 360 will be unable to maintain a steady connection. Disable any large file downloads or video or audio streaming programs on computers sharing your connection. If you share the connection with other gamers, try taking turns with online play instead of all connecting at once.
Simplify the connection between your Internet receiver and router. If possible, your Xbox 360 should connect directly to the receiver itself, but if this is not possible, make sure there are no relays or long wires between the receiver and router to weaken the signal.
Reduce the number of players in your game. Only connect to games that allow eight players, instead of 16 or more. This reduces strain on the connection.
Play at a different time of day. If many other users are connecting to the Internet over the same satellite or server, the connection will be weaker. This is most noticeable in the evening, when more users are connecting from home. Try connecting during the daytime or later at night.
Consult your Internet service provider about upgrading your connection. While satellite connections are always going to be patchy and less than ideal for online gaming, a connection of less than 512 kbps (kilobytes per second) should be upgraded to at least this speed.
