How to Fix an XBox 360 Headset

Modern video game controllers, like the controllers for the Xbox 360 video game console, come equipped with ports designed for various add-ons. One add-on that connects to a port in the bottom of the 360 controller is a headset. This allows you to communicate with co-players during communication-enabled multiplayer games. If the headset on your Xbox 360 has become damaged or broken, there is actually a way to fix it yourself. It does require a little knowledge of electronics, but the process is fairly straightforward.

Things You'll Need

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • Soldering iron

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the headset from the controller and place it on a sturdy work surface such as a desk or table.

    • 2

Use your fingers to remove the foam protector pad from the earpiece. It should come off with little effort.

    • 3

Locate the three square retaining tabs on the front of the earpiece. Use the tip of your screwdriver to press each of them in.

    • 4

Pull the speaker assembly out of the earpiece and examine the internal wires for a broken connection.

    • 5

Place any broken wires back on the connection terminal on the rear of the speaker assembly and use your soldering iron to solder it back in place.

    • 6

Wait about five minutes for the solder to cool and then replace the speaker assembly in the earpiece. Your headset should now be working perfectly.
