How to Copy Xbox Games to CD

Throughout the evolution of gaming hardware, software has rushed to keep pace with the newest technology. Video games that used to fit on small cartridges now require multiple DVDs to install, due to their massive size. Xbox 360 games are encoded in DVD format, and you can burn one copy of each of your games to serve as a backup in case anything happens to your original disc. This can only be done on dual-layered DVD discs. Copyright protection software native to the Xbox 360 prevents the use of burned games; you must have a "modded" 360 console to use the games you burn.

Things You'll Need

  • DVD-R dual layer burner
  • Windows-based PC
  • Blank DVD-R disc
  • Ripping software such as "Easy Backup Wizard" or "Slysoft CloneCD"
  • Disc image burning software such as "Toast" or "ImgBurn"
  • Modded Xbox 360

Instructions

    • 1

Load the game disc you wish to copy into your computer’s disc tray.

    • 2

Launch the ripping software of your choice and follow the on-screen instructions to create an ISO-formatted copy of the game disc. ISO files are archived versions of discs that function almost like CDs or DVDs, only without the disc itself. Each program works through this process a little differently, but as long as you save the final file in ISO format, you will be able to burn it to another disc.

    • 3

Remove the game disc and insert a blank DVD-R disc into the tray.

    • 4

Open your disc burning software and copy the ISO file to the disc. When the burn completes, you will have a fully functional copy of your game. The disc must be burned as a DVD-ROM; a data or music disc will be unrecognizable to the Xbox 360.
