How to Use a USB Jump Drive With an XBox 360

Microsoft consistently improves its flagship console, the Xbox 360, with system updates that increase functionality with new features. Some of the largest updates have included adding Facebook and Netflix, and the ability to save games to the hard drive. Another popular update for the console has been the added compatibility with portable USB drives. This allows users to save games, gamertags and game videos, among other things, to a USB jump drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Update your console with the latest system update, if necessary, by logging into Xbox LIVE and automatically downloading the mandatory update when prompted. The console will restart after the system update completes installation.

    • 2

Plug your desired USB drive into your console’s USB port.

    • 3

Press the Xbox 360 "Guide" button on your controller then scroll to “Settings.” Choose “System Settings.” This displays a new options menu.

    • 4

Select “Memory” from the “System Settings” screen. You will be prompted to select a device.

    • 5

Choose your USB device from the “Storage Devices” selection menu.

    • 6

Select your desired configuration mode. “Configure now” deletes all data from your jump drive. “Customize” allows you to choose how much memory on the jump drive you would like to reserve for Xbox 360 use. The console will then configure the device automatically. Once configuration completes, you can save data on the jump drive the same way you would save it to your hard drive or memory unit.
