How to Use a USB Wireless Adapter With XBox 360

Using the Xbox 360 Network Adapter, you can connect your Xbox 360 to your wireless Internet network. As of June 2010, there are currently two versions of the Network Adapter available for the Xbox 360: the Wireless G Network Adapter and the Wireless N Network adapter. Their functionality is similar, however, the Wireless N Network Adapter is larger and is connected to the console in a slightly different way.

Instructions

  1. Xbox 360 Wireless G Networking Adapter [One Antenna]

      Turn the Xbox off. Insert the Wireless G Networking Adapter into one of the front or back USB ports on the Xbox.

      Turn the Xbox on. The light on the Wireless G Networking Adapter will be red. This light indicates that it is properly connected, but still needs to be setup.

      Go to the "My Xbox" menu. Select "Network Settings." Select "Configure Network." Move to the "Basic Settings" tab and select "Wireless Mode."

      Select "Scan for Networks." Select the name of the wireless Internet network to which you want to connect. If applicable, enter the password for the network and select "Done."

      Select "Test Xbox Live Connection." If the test is not successful, the reason and most common solution will be displayed on screen. If the test is successful, you can continue to the Xbox Live setup. Repeatedly press the "B" button to return to the My Xbox menu. Select "Join Xbox Live." Follow the user specific instructions to complete the Xbox Live registration process.

    Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter [Two Antenna]

      Turn the Xbox off. Insert the Wireless N Networking Adapter into the two slots on the back-right of the Xbox. The prongs are located right above the USB and Ethernet ports. Make sure it is secure. Insert the USB cable into the USB port below. Flip the antennas so that they are facing upward.

      Turn the Xbox on. The light on the Wireless N Networking Adapter will be red. This light indicates that it is properly connected, but still needs to be setup.

      Go to the "My Xbox" menu. Select "Network Settings." Select "Configure Network." Move to the "Basic Settings" tab and select "Wireless Mode."

      Select "Scan for Networks." Select the name of the wireless Internet network to which you want to connect. If applicable, enter the password for the network and select "Done."

      Select "Test Xbox Live Connection." If the test is not successful, the reason and most common solution will be displayed on screen. If the test is successful, you can continue to the Xbox Live setup. Repeatedly press the "B" button to return to the My Xbox menu. Select "Join Xbox Live." Follow the user specific instructions to complete the Xbox Live registration process.
