Wireless Controller
Power off the Xbox 360.
Press the button on the top of the controller to eject the battery bay. Insert two fresh AA batteries and reconnect the battery bay. Xbox 360 owners with the Xbox 360 plug-and-play kit should connect the cable charger to the top of the controller, plugging the other end into one of the console&'s front USB ports to recharge the controller.
Press the small round "Sync" button on the front of the Xbox 360 located next to the second memory unit port.
Press the small-round sync button on the top of the controller within 20 seconds of pressing the "Sync" button on the console to re-sync the controller to your Xbox 360. Synchronization may take several moments.
Press the controller&'s center button and power on the console to see if the issue is fixed.
Wired Controller
Power off the Xbox 360 and disconnect the Xbox 360 wired controller from the front of the console.
Clear any obstructions in the Xbox 360&'s front USB bay.
Replace the controller if the wire is frayed, torn or physically damaged; a wired controller with wire damage should not be used.
Reconnect the controller to the either of the console&'s front USB ports.
Press the controller&'s center button and power on the console to see if the issue is fixed.
