How to Transfer Data Between XBox 360 Units

The Xbox 360 slim console released in 2010 had many Xbox owners wanting to replace their old Xbox with the new one. The new machine came with several new features including built-in wireless Internet, additional USB ports, and in-the-box Kinect (hands-free controller) support. If you want to transfer the data from your old hard drive to your new one, all you really need is an Xbox 360 transfer kit.

Instructions

Turn off the Xbox 360 console that you need to transfer data from and disconnect everything plugged in to it (except power).

    • 2

Remove the hard drive from the Xbox 360 you want to transfer data to. Turn the other Xbox from the first step and a controller for it back on.

    • 3

Connect the transfer cable from the kit to the hard drive you want to transfer the data to. Connect the other end of the transfer cable to a USB port on your Xbox 360 (the data source).

Insert the disc from the transfer kit in your Xbox disc tray and close it. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the transfer process. Do not interrupt the connections once the process has begun or you will have to restart the data transfer process.
