Instructions

    • 1

Set up a network using the router. The Ethernet cable from your Internet modem should be placed into the main input of the router; this will then emit an Internet signal, creating a network, which you can name. Refer to your specific router's manual on setting up a network, as instructions may vary according to manufacturer.

    • 2

Connect your PC and Xbox 360 to the network using either Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. The Xbox 360 should be connected as well using either an Ethernet cable (if it's close enough) or a wireless adapter, which plugs into the back of the console. The wireless adapter comes with specific installation instructions and an installation disc.

    • 3

Run Windows Media Player 11 on your PC. If you don't have it, you can download it for free from Microsoft's website, or simply run Windows Update from your computer's Control Panel.

    • 4

Power on your Xbox 360 without a disc in the drive to bring up the main menu. If everything works correctly, it should say "Media Center Extender Found" at the bottom right of your desktop on your PC.

    • 5

Click "Library" in the top menu of Windows Media Player and then click "Media Sharing." Then click "Share My Media," followed by "OK." Wait a moment for your PC to find your Xbox 360. Click "Allow" on the proceeding menu, followed by "OK."

Scroll over to "Media Menu" on your Xbox 360 console, then select "Videos." The videos in your Microsoft media library will pop up. To play them, just select them and press "X" on your Xbox 360 controller.
