Things You'll Need
Instructions
Power off your Xbox 360 console.
Turn the console around so you have access to the rear of the device.
Connect the external storage drive to a USB cable, and insert the other end of the USB cable into the rear USB port on the back of the Xbox 360. If using a USB flash drive, connect the drive into the console's USB port. Depending on which type of external hard drive you have, you might also need to plug the hard drive to a power outlet using the drive's power cable.
Power on the Xbox 360 console and the TV set.
Scroll up on the Xbox 360 home screen using the 360 remote control--scroll to My Xbox.
Scroll to the right in the My Xbox menu to select either Video Library, Music Library or Picture Library depending on the type of media you want to view on your external hard drive.
Select Portable Device in the Select Source screen with the "OK" button on the Xbox 360 Universal Remote. Then scroll through the listed videos, songs or images until you find one that you want to view. To select a file, press "A" on either remote control.
