How to Add a USB Hard Drive to Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 video game system allows you to access and store various media files, including games, video and music, on several types of storage devices. The most common form of storage device is an external Hard Drive Device (HDD) which attaches to the top of the Xbox 360 and allows storage between 25 and 250 gigabytes. You also have the option of extending the amount of storage available for use by adding a USB hard drive device as well. The USB device you wish to use must have a minimum of 1 gigabyte of space available.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the USB hard drive into the USB slot located on the front of the Xbox 360.

    • 2

Access the "System Settings" menu located in the "My Xbox" submenu in the Xbox Dashboard.

    • 3

Open the "Memory" menu and choose "USB storage device" on the resulting storage device screen.

    • 4

Choose the "Configure Now" option on the screen. This will delete all previous data on the USB hard drive and configure it for use with the Xbox 360. The USB hard drive is now configured and available for use as a hard drive for your Xbox 360.
