How to Host an XBox 360 Live Game

Microsoft's Xbox 360 video game console utilizes a comprehensive online system called "Xbox Live" (commonly referred to as "Live") to handle all gaming over the Internet. With Xbox Live, gamers can challenge other players around the world and compete for high scores. Many Xbox Live games require one player to "host" the game--to set up a game session and pick the game settings.

  Start the Xbox 360 game that you want to host.

  Choose the option in the main menu to play the game online. Depending upon the game, this option may be called "Xbox Live," "Multiplayer" or "Play Online."

  Select the option that allows you to create an online match.

  Pick the game options you want to use. For example, if you are playing a shooting game, pick the stage and types of weapons that will be permitted.

  Click the button to confirm these settings. Other online players can now join the Xbox Live game that you are hosting.
