How to Hook Up a High-Definition Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is designed for high-definition capabilities through a provided component HD AV cable or a separately sold HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is a single cable and provides support for 1080p output, while the component HD AV cable supports up to 1080i only and connects through the color-coded TV jacks. Setting up your high-definition experience on the Xbox 360 with either of the cables is simple and quick.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the power supply cable to your Xbox 360 and the other side to an outlet.

    • 2

Connect the HDMI cable connector into the HDMI AV port on the Xbox 360, if you have an HDMI cable. Connect the other end to your TV's HDMI input. If you have the component HD AV cable, connect the AV connector into the standard AV port on the Xbox 360, and the color-coded connectors into the corresponding jacks on your TV.

    • 3

Place two AA batteries in your Xbox 360 controller and turn on your TV, Xbox 360 console and the Xbox 360 controller.

    • 4

Navigate to the "System" menu and then "Console Settings."

    • 5

Select "Display." Select "HDTV Settings." Choose which output matches your HDTV, such as 720i or 1080p. Press "A" and confirm your choice by clicking "Yes."
