How to Connect an XBox 360 to a VGA Monitor

The Xbox 360 was released in 2005 and was the first gaming console to feature high-definition graphics, which are ideally viewed on a high-def capable device. Almost all modern TVs have high-definition capability, as do most flat-screen computer monitors. An Xbox 360 can be connected to a VGA computer monitor by using a simple VGA converter.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your Xbox 360's video output to the VGA converter's video input via either component or composite cables. The component cables are red, blue and green and can transfer high-def content while the composite cables are yellow, white and red and transfer only standard-def. The VGA converter should have corresponding inputs.

Connect the VGA converter's VGA video output to the monitor's VGA input via a VGA male-to-male cable. The VGA video input on the monitor can almost always be found on the back, though if it's the wall-mounted variety it might be on the bottom.

    • 3

Power on your Xbox 360 and your monitor and set your monitor to the proper video channel. If it's a TV, you might have to sort through video channels such as "VIDEO 1" until you get to "VGA" or "PC" or "Computer." If it's a computer-only monitor, then there will usually only be one video channel and your Xbox 360's images should pop up right away.
