How to Clean an XBox 360 Controller

After only several hours of game play, the Xbox 360 controller quickly accumulates oil, dirt and grime from dirty and sweating hands. Regularly cleaning the controller is an excellent way of preventing the opportunistic spread of bacteria and germs and also improving the overall aesthetic look of the gaming environment. Cleaning the Xbox 360 controller may also improve the player's gaming skill because it reduces the likelihood of button-pressing mishaps due to accumulated oil and dirt.

Things You'll Need

Q-tips
Cotton swabs
Rubbing alcohol
Towel

Instructions

  Remove the battery/charge pack from the Xbox 360 controller before cleaning to reduce the likelihood of an electric mishap.

  Wet the cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and gently scrub the entire surface of the Xbox 360 controller; do not touch the electronic battery contacts or any game ports with the damp cotton swab.

  Dip the Q-tip into a small amount of rubbing alcohol and gently scrub the surface around the game buttons and triggers and under the joysticks.

  Gently dry the controller using the towel to before reassembling the battery/charge pack.
