How to Fix an XBox 360 Scratched Disc

The game discs used by an Xbox 360 are no different physically than those used in DVD players or by computers. Fixing a scratched game disc follows the same procedure as if it were a CD or DVD: Fill in the scratch so that the laser can read the data without skipping. You will need a few supplies found around the home but no special skill to fix the Xbox 360 scratched disc.

Things You'll Need

Soft cloth
Lint-free cloth
Regular toothpaste
Paper towel
Drying rack

Instructions

  Place a soft cloth on a table. Place the Xbox 360 game disc on the soft cloth with the label side facing down.

  Brush off the Xbox 360 game disc with an edge of the lint-free cloth.

  Squeeze toothpaste onto the Xbox 360 game disc, starting to the left of the center hole and circling the disc until the outer edge is reached.

  Place the index finger of one hand on the Xbox 360 game disc to the left of the center hole.

  Wipe the toothpaste onto the XBox 360 game disc with a swirling motion of the index finger as it circles the disc.

  Remove the index finger when it reaches the outer edge of the disc. Wipe the index finger off with a paper towel. Dispose of the paper towel in the trash.

  Pick up the Xbox 360 game disc in one hand by its edges. Hold the Xbox 360 game disc underneath the kitchen faucet with the label side facing down.

  Turn on the water. Wash the surface of the Xbox 360 game disc until the toothpaste disappears. Turn off the water.

  Place the Xbox 360 game disc in the drying rack. Leave the Xbox 360 game disc in the drying rack until it is dry.
