How to Take Apart an XBox 360 Power Supply

The Xbox 360 is powered by a rather larger external power supply. This unit connects the console to a power outlet and provides clean power for the gaming console. If it is not stored properly, it can overheat and malfunction. It can also become full of dirt and dust, which will clog the fan and not allow for proper cooling of the unit. Without a working power supply, your Xbox 360 will not work. You may have to take it apart in order to fix it.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down your console and unplug the power supply from the back of the console and from the power outlet.

    • 2

Remove the four rubber feet on the bottom of the power supply.

    • 3

Use the small pick to pry out the four covers that lie underneath the rubber feet and cover the screws. These are glued in, so you will have to twist and pry pretty hard to get them loose.

    • 4

Remove the four screws with the Phillips head screwdriver. Again, these are glued into the unit, so you may have to apply force to get them loose.

    • 5

Remove the top cover to expose the interior of the unit. You can now proceed to replace any damaged components to get the power supply into working condition or clean the unit of dust.
