"Gears of War"
Released in late 2006, "Gears of War" puts players in control of Marcus Fenix, a soldier thrust into one heated combat scene after the next. Through Xbox Live, players have the option of completing the campaign mode alongside another human player as well as the usual online team-based multiplayer options. Online games are played in three different modes: Warzone, with a standard team death match; Assassination, which puts one player in the role of team leader; and Execution, which forces players to kill the others before they revive themselves.
"Gears of War 2"
The sequel was released in mid-2009 and came equipped with several new multiplayer modes and several game-play improvements. One such change includes the option of setting an independent difficulty for each player when going through the campaign mode along with a partner online. There are three new multiplayer modes in "Gears of War 2" including Submission, Wingman and Horde.
"Halo 3"
With an overall score of 9.5 out of 10 on Gamespot.com, "Halo 3" received more than its share of critical acclaim upon being released in 2007. Although years have passed, it still stands the test of time when it comes to entertaining online play. Players can compete in four-player co-op mode during the regular campaign if desired, or they can enter the multiplayer world and take on each other with up to 16 players on 11 maps.
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2"
While "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2" does allow players to engage in single player campaign mode, the online multiplayer competition will ultimately provide much more entertainment over the long haul; the single player campaign can be completed in just around five hours. "Modern Warfare 2" pits players against each other, giving them plenty of weapons, armor, and maps to play around with in various settings, such as Demolition and Domination modes.
"Grand Theft Auto IV: Ballad of Gay Tony"
"GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony" is a downloadable episode add-on to the original "Grand Theft Auto IV." Players take on the role of Tony Prince, a nightclub owner, and his business partner Luis Lopez. By interacting with the in-game character's cell phone, players can immediately take the game online, joining up with thousands of other players in team death matches, Free Play mode, and GTA race contests.
