How to Restore Xbox Settings

The Xbox 360 is a popular video game console, offering fully featured online compatibility, an extensive software library and media playback capability. Numerous settings in the Xbox console allow for a deep level of customization regarding video and audio output, family settings and various other aspects of the Xbox 360. Due to the many settings that can be modified, users may wish to restore these settings to the factory defaults. Two methods can allow for this reset, both easily accessible, and one specifically addressing display settings.

Instructions

  1. Restoring Your Xbox 360 Settings Through the Dashboard

    • 1

Navigate to the "My Xbox" row of the console dashboard.

    • 2

Move right and select "System Settings." Ensure that family settings are not enabled, as they will prevent the next step from succeeding.

    • 3

Select "Initial Setup." The console will now guide you through the configuration process you completed upon first turning on the console.

Resetting Xbox 360 Display Settings Using the Power-Up Method

    • 4

Turn off the Xbox 360 console, removing any disc left inside of it before powering it down.

    • 5

Press the Xbox guide button on the controller to restart the console.

    • 6

Press and hold the right trigger and "Y" button at the same time as the console powers up. Once the Xbox logo appears, the console will restart itself.

    • 7

Release the right trigger and "Y" button. The console will restart with all display settings reset.
