Difference Between Gold & Silver XBox Live Membership

The Microsoft Xbox 360 provides two online services for their users: silver and gold. Just like the names suggest, the gold account has more features than the silver one. However, a user has to pay to attain that account, while the silver account is entirely free.
  1. Price

    • The silver membership is free. Once an Xbox 360 user gets online, he can create an account. That account automatically becomes a silver one until they upgrade to a gold one. As of June 2010, the gold membership costs $50 a year.

    Online Play

    • The gold membership allows its members to play online on any game equipped with online capability. There is no online play with a silver membership.

    Player Feedback

    • In the gold membership, members can rate each other on different game skills and personalities. The silver membership has none of these features.

    Play Original Xbox Games

    • The gold membership allows members to play certain original Xbox games through patch updates. The silver membership does not get any patch updates to play the original Xbox games.

    Video Chat

    • The gold membership unlocks video chat. It allows players with the Xbox 360 webcam to talk to each other over video . The silver membership does not allow this.
