How to Fix Xbox 360 Wireless Controllers

The Xbox 360, like other consoles of its generation, uses wireless controllers so that players can game from anywhere they like without worrying about cords getting in the way. If you are having some trouble with your Xbox 360 wireless controller, there are some simple ways you can troubleshoot and fix it.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the power connection pads. On the back of the controller, you will see a power pack. Release this power pack by pressing the button on the top on the controller. Once removed, make sure that the small connector pads are clean. Use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean these pads.

    • 2

Disconnect controller accessories. If you are using a headset, chat pad, or other accessory, it may be interfering with your controller's normal function, or inhibiting it from syncing with your console. Remove all accessories, and then restart your console to solve this issue.

    • 3

Remove unauthorized faceplates, In order to work correctly, the wireless signals sent and recieved from the Xbox 360 wireless controller need to be "read" by the black sensor on the front of the console. If an unauthorized faceplate is blocking this sensor, the controller will not work. Remove the faceplate, restart the console, and then try again.

Clean the controller. If you are experiencing "sticky" movements when you play, turn the console and the controller off, and then use a cotton swab dampened with rubbing alcohol to clean all of the buttons and joysticks.
