Download the MechInstaller file to the PC (see the link in Resources). Double-click on the file once downloaded to decompress it to a folder on the desktop.
Download a Linux distribution program to the PC, for example, the Debian Linux distribution program (see the link in Resources). Double-click on the file once downloaded to decompress it to a program on the desktop.
Download a CD-burning utility to the desktop, for example, the free Alcohol 12% program (see the link in Resources). Double-click on the file once downloaded to decompress it to a program on the desktop. Restart the PC.
Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Put a blank recordable CD onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray.
Click on the icon of the CD-burning utility to launch it. Click on the "Add file" button. Navigate in the window that appears to the Linux distribution program. Highlight the Linux distribution program. Click on the "Open" button on the window.
Select the DVD drive from the "Devices" drop-down menu on the CD-burning utility. Click on the "Burn" or "Go" button to burn the blank recordable CD.
Quit the CD-burning utility when the progress bar on the CD-burning utility's main screen indicates that the CD has been burned. Eject the disc tray. Remove the CD. Close the disc tray.
Plug the USB flash drive into the Xbox to USB cable. Plug the Xbox to USB cable into one of the Xbox's game ports. Turn the Xbox on.
Navigate to the "Memory" menu on the Xbox. Select the USB flash drive's icon. Select "Format" from the list of choices presented underneath the USB flash drive's icon. Turn off the XBox. Remove the USB flash drive from the Xbox to USB cable.
Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on the computer. Copy the files inside of the MechInstaller folder onto the icon of the USB flash drive on the desktop.
Right-click on the icon of the USB flash drive when the files have been copied. Select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port of the computer.
Attach the USB flash drive to the Xbox to USB cable. Turn on the Xbox.
Navigate to the "Memory" menu on the Xbox. Select the USB flash drive's icon.
Select the "MechInstaller" file from the list of choices presented under the USB flash drive's icon. Press the "X" button on the game controller to run the program.
Follow the menu commands to install the MechInstaller program onto the Xbox.
Turn off the Xbox when told to do so. Remove the Xbox to USB cable from the Xbox.
Turn on the Xbox. Insert the CD that has been burned into the Xbox's disk slot at the front. Navigate to the "Memory" menu on the Xbox. Select the CD's icon. Select the "Install Linux" file from the list of choices presented under the CD's icon.
Press the "X" button on the game controller to run the program. Follow the menu commands to install the Linux program onto the Xbox. Turn off the Xbox when told to do so by the Linux program.
Turn on the Xbox. Eject the CD from the disc slot. Insert the Xbox Mechassault video game disc in the disc slot.
Choose "Campaign" from the list of choices presented on the game's main screen. Select "Install Linux" from the list of choices presented on the next screen.
Press the "X" button on the game controller. Turn off the Xbox when told to do so.
Turn on the Xbox. Eject the MechAssault video game disc. Wait for the Linux menu to appear on the screen. Your Xbox now has new capabilities through the Linux operating system.
