How to Avoid XBox Fraud

When using your Xbox or Xbox 360 you may inadvertently be committing a crime or some sort of fraud. Often this is done without your knowledge or without you knowing what you are doing is wrong. However, if caught you may be prosecuted over the fraudulent acts you committed while using your Xbox. Because of this it is important to know what is considered fraudulent and how to avoid it.

Instructions

    • 1

Stay away from connecting to wireless Internet connections you do not own or have permission to access. This is considered stealing and the individual who owns the WiFi network does have the ability to files charges (although you are usually just asked to stop using the Internet).

    • 2

Avoid copying CDs you do not own onto the hard drive of the Xbox. It is fine if you are backing up CD music you already own, but copying data you do not is illegal and infringement of copyright law.

    • 3

Stay away from charging individuals to play the video game. Because the product license is owned by Microsoft you do not have permission to charge individuals to play the game and, if found out, you may be prosecuted.

    • 4

Play officially licensed games. Do not play games burned off of a computer or hardware you had to mod to use on the system (a mod, or modified, is a third party hardware installed on the XBox to give it extra abilities not provided by Microsoft-such as the ability to import full DVD movies onto the hard drive or play computer created video games). This also is illegal and fraudulent so it is best to stay away from committing such acts.
