How to Copy Games to an Xbox Hard Drive

The Xbox 360 has a removable hard drive with varying sizes, such as the original 20-GB model to the largest 250-GB version. Each hard drive can store hours of music and game data. Another useful feature of the hard drive is the ability to copy games, allowing the user to run the game off the hard drive while the game is in the disc tray. The advantages of this might not be readily apparent, but running the game from the hard drive rather than the DVD drive decreases load times and stress on the error-prone console.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the DVD disc tray and insert the game you wish to copy. Close the DVD disc tray.

    • 2

Navigate to the Xbox 360's dashboard by pressing the "Guide" button on the controller, pressing the "Y" button and confirming the action on the resulting prompt.

    • 3

Scroll up or down to navigate to the first section of the My Xbox area. The first section displays the game's cover art and a few game details. From here, you would normally press "A" to run the game.

    • 4

Press the "Y" button. This takes you to a new screen where you can view game details as well as install the game to the hard drive.

    • 5

Select "Install to Hard Drive." A progress bar appears and the game begins installing to the console's hard drive. You cannot do anything with the console until the copying process completes.

    • 6

Press the "A" button after the copying process completes.
