How to Flash Your Xbox 360 Hard Drive

In computer terminology, the word "flash" means "to update." When you flash the hard drive that is installed in your Xbox 360, what you are doing is updating the firmware that is installed on that drive. The firmware is the name of the software that allows your Xbox 360 to perform its basic functions. You can flash the hard drive on your Xbox 360 by selecting the proper commands from your console's dashboard/main menu system.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on your Xbox 360.

    • 2

Select the "Xbox Live" dashboard menu option. If your console is not currently logged in, enter your Xbox Live user account information into the box on the screen.

    • 3

Wait a few seconds. Once connected to Xbox Live, the Xbox 360 will automatically check for any updates that are available for your system.

    • 4

Select "Yes" when asked if you want to update. Your Xbox 360 will download the necessary files and flash the firmware on your console's hard drive. Be patient and do not turn off your console while this is going on. Once the firmware update is complete you will be notified on-screen.
