How to Fix XBox 360 Elite Problems

The Xbox 360 has become infamous among gamers for being a notoriously fickled piece of hardware, prone to high failure rates due to a variety of hardware issues. The dreaded "red ring of death," three flashing red lights on the front of the console, signals the death of the machine. While this can't be repaired, there are many other problems that can be fixed by the user taking the proper steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the AV or HDMI cable from the rear of the machine if you have four flashing red lights. This signals that there is a problem with the connection to the system. If this persists, the issue lies with the hardware itself and must be sent to Microsoft for repair.

    • 2

Shut your console off if you see two flashing red lights on the front of the machine, as this indicates that there is a heating issue with your 360. Take your machine and carefully clean it, making sure that all air vents are clear for proper air flow into the machine.

    • 3

Wrap your Xbox 360 in a towel and turn it on. The heat generated from this can temporarily fix the dreaded Red Ring of Death. This is only a temporary fix and does not always work.

    • 4

Clean your eye. If you turn your machine on and your dashboard reads "Open Tray" while a disk is in the tray, this is a sign that the laser lens is dirty. This is easily remedied by sliding a CD eye cleaner into your Xbox 360 console and letting it run for two to three minutes.

Reset your Xbox 360 by powering it off then turning it back on to fix the stray game freeze.
