How to Update My Xbox BIOS Without a Mod Chip

Preparing the Modification

  Download and install a free Internet Relay Chat program to the computer's desktop, for example, the Mirc IRC program.

  Download and install a free FTP program to the desktop, for example, the SmartFTP program. Restart the PC.

  Double-click on the icon of the IRC Internet program to launch it. Enter ̶0;/server irc.efnet.net̶1; without the quotation marks to log into the program. Press ̶0;Return."

  Enter ̶0;/j #xbins̶1; without the quotation marks in the text column that appears. Press ̶0;Return.̶1; Enter ̶0;/msg xbins !list̶1; without the quotation marks in the text column that now appears. Press ̶0;Return.̶1;

  Write down the login location and password that appear on the screen. Quit the IRC Internet program.

  Double-click on the icon of the FTP program to launch it. Enter the login location and password that you wrote down in the appropriate field of the window that appears. Press ̶0;OK.̶1;

  Navigate through the following folders: Xbox/exploits/_Packages/Softmod Installer Deluxe. Click on the Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.rar file. Press the ̶0;Download̶1; button. Navigate to the desktop of the computer in the window that appears. Click the ̶0;Save̶1; button in the window.

  Wait for the Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.rar file to download to the desktop of the computer. Quit the FTP program once the file has downloaded.

  Double-click on the Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.rar file to decompress it to a folder on the desktop. Double-click on the folder to open its window.

  Double-click on each of these two files to decompress them: SID.Splinter.Cell.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.zip, SID.Splinter.Cell.v2.0.NTSC.Xbox-Hq.zip.

  Insert the Xbox memory card into the memory card reader. Plug the memory card reader̵7;s USB plug into a USB port on the computer. Wait for the icon of the Xbox memory card to appear on the desktop of the computer.

  Drag the two decompressed files from the folder that was opened onto the icon of the Xbox memory card. Wait for two files to copy to the Xbox memory card.

  Right-click on the icon of the Xbox memory card. Select ̶0;Eject̶1; from the pop-up menu.

  Remove the memory card reader̵7;s USB plug from the USB port of the computer.

Running The Modification

  Insert the memory card reader̵7;s USB plug into the USB port on the Xbox. Turn the Xbox on.

  Navigate to the ̶0;Devices̶1; icon. Select the memory card icon from beneath ̶0;Devices.̶1; Select one of the two decompressed files from the list to the right of the memory card icon. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button. Select ̶0;Copy̶1; from the pop-up menu. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to copy the decompressed file to the Xbox.

  Repeat this procedure to select and copy the other decompressed file to the Xbox.

  Press the ̶0;Eject̶1; button to eject the DVD drive̵7;s disc tray. Put the Xbox "Tom Clancy̵7;s Splinter Cell" video game disc onto the disc tray. Press the ̶0;Eject̶1; button again to close the disc tray.

  Select ̶0;Start Game̶1; from the game̵7;s menu when it appears. Press the ̶0;A̶1; button on the game controller. Select the ̶0;Linux̶1; game save from the list presented. Press the ̶0;A̶1; button to go to a new screen.

  Select ̶0;Check Points.̶1; Wait as the screen goes black and then displays a menu after about 20 seconds have elapsed.

  Select ̶0;install Softmod̶1; from the list of choices presented. Press the ̶0;A̶1; button to begin the installation.

  Select ̶0;Install Evox̶1; from the list of choices presented in the new screen that appears.

  Press the ̶0;A̶1; button to begin the installation.

  Turn off the Xbox when the installation screen tells you to do so. Turn the Xbox back on.

  Press the ̶0;Eject̶1; button. Remove the Xbox Tom Clancy̵7;s Splinter Cell video game disc from the disc tray. Press the ̶0;Eject̶1; button to close the disc tray.

  Wait for the softmodded Home menu to appear on the screen now that the Xbox̵7;s BIOS has been modified.
