How to Chip an Xbox 360?

Modifying---or "chipping"---an Xbox 360 enables it to perform functions not sanctioned by Microsoft. You must violate the Microsoft warranty by opening the Xbox 360 to install a mod chip bought from a mod-chip supply store. The mod chip is soldered to the motherboard of the game console, requiring adult supervision if the person soldering the mod chip is underage. A Xbox 360 that has been "chipped" will be able to run programs created by other game enthusiasts.

Repeat the procedure to release the latches from inside of the ventilation grill on the left side of the Xbox 360.

    • 8

Turn the Xbox 360 face down on the bath towel. Lift the bottom shelf to reveal the 14 screws.
