How to Connect Headphones to an Xbox 360

One of the biggest advantages of the XBox 360 gaming console is the ability to connect and compete with other players via XBox Live. This experience can be further enhanced by using a gaming headset with your console, which will enable you to chat and strategize with fellow gamers. Here is how to get started.

Things You'll Need

  • Xbox 360 controller
  • Xbox 360-compatible gaming headset (wired or wireless)

Instructions

  1. Wired Headset

    • 1

Locate the volume-level controller on your headset. Make sure the volume is turned down or off while setting up.

    • 2

Connect the headset's wire to the Xbox 360 controller. The appropriate port is located on the bottom of the controller between the hand grips. Plug the headset into this port.

    • 3

Put on your headset and adjust the headband and microphone (if applicable) accordingly. Once the game begins, adjust the volume levels again, until they are comfortable.

    Wireless Headset

    • 4

Make sure that your wireless headset has a fully charged battery. The battery can be charged using a standard AC power-adapter charger or, if properly equipped, a USB charging cable that can be plugged directly into the console.

    • 5

Establish a connection between the Xbox 360 console and the wireless headset by first making sure that both devices are powered on. Press the small "connection" button on the console. Once the lights begin to rotate, press and hold the "connect" button on the headset for at least two seconds. The headset will then be designated to an available quadrant.

    • 6

Connect to Xbox Live to retrieve the latest "Dashboard" update. This will allow you to set the wireless headset for use with your personal Xbox Live account.
