How to Connect an Xbox 360 to a Sony DG510 Via an HDMI Cable for Sound

Looking at the backs of HD-ready devices like LCD TVs, game consoles and digital audio receivers can be confusing and, at times, overwhelming. The Sony DG510 in particular has over 40 different ports on the back of it, three of them HDMI cable ports, and it can be a challenge to know what goes where. However, with the proper equipment and knowledge, hooking up your Xbox 360 to your Sony DG510 audio receiver is easy. In less than 10 minutes, you can be enjoying a fully high-definition gaming experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Sony DG510 audio receiver, TV and Xbox 360. Unplug all three devices.

    • 2

Plug one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the back of your Xbox 360 and the other end into one of the two HDMI IN ports on the back of the audio receiver.

    • 3

Plug one end of the other HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the back of the audio receiver and the other end into an HDMI IN port on your TV.

    • 4

Power on all three devices. Use the Input button on your TV and audio receiver's remote controls to select the appropriate input mode. For example, if you plugged the Xbox 360 into the HDMI DVD port on the audio receiver, you have to put it into DVD mode to hear sound. TVs with multiple HDMI ports typically number them, so if you plugged the audio receiver into HDMI 1, you'll need to cycle through input modes until you reach the HDMI 1 screen.
