How to Repair XBox Disks

Xbox game discs share a common problem with DVD and CD discs in that the silver side holding the data can become scratched. The scratch prevents the laser in the Xbox's DVD drive from being able to read the data on the disc. A scratched Xbox game disc can be fixed so the laser can once again read the data on it. You only need a few household items to repair the Xbox game disc. The repair does not violate the Xbox's warranty in any way.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloth
  • Toothpaste
  • Cotton pads
  • Compressed air

Instructions

    • 1

Put a soft cloth on a table. Put the Xbox game disc on the soft cloth with the labeled side facing down.

    • 2

Blow off the Xbox game disc with compressed air.

    • 3

Apply a dollop of toothpaste to one side of the cotton pad. Smear the toothpaste onto the side of the cotton swab with your finger. Wipe your finger off with a paper towel.

    • 4

Put the side of the cotton pad that has the smeared toothpaste on it on top of the scratch on the Xbox game disc.

    • 5

Wipe the scratch with the cotton pad in a swirling motion, starting at the scratch and moving outward to cover the entire Xbox game disc.

    • 6

Remove the cotton pad. Inspect the scratch to see if it is no longer visible. Repeat the process with a new cotton pad smeared with toothpaste if the scratch is still visible.

    • 7

Leave the Xbox game disc alone for a day.

    • 8

Blow off the Xbox game disc with compressed air.

    • 9

Pick up the Xbox game disc by the edges. Turn it over in your hand, still holding it by the edges, so that the label is now facing up.

    • 10

Turn the Xbox on. Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive.

    • 11

Put the Xbox game disc that has now been repaired onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray.

    • 12

Wait as the Xbox loads the Xbox game disc. Play the Xbox game once it has loaded.
