Putting the Xbox Hard Drive Into a Mac Desktop
Turn off the Mac. Remove the power cord from the Mac.
Pull up on the locking latch on the back panel of the Mac. Pull the side panel that has the seams on it off the Mac using your fingers.
Push the control tab on the Xbox's hard drive from "Master" to "Slave" using the tip of the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Release the locking latch inside of the Mac next to the hard drive bays. Pull one of the empty hard drive trays out of the hard drive bay.
Remove the screws from both sides of the hard drive tray with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Slide the Xbox hard drive, front end first, into the hard drive tray. Reattach the screws to both sides of the hard drive tray with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to secure the Xbox hard drive to the tray.
Push the hard drive tray back into the hard drive bay. Stop pushing once the cable-less connectors engage the connections on the Xbox hard drive. Re-engage the locking latch.
Put the side panel back onto the Mac. Push the locking latch on the back of the Mac back down. Plug the power cord back in.
Turn on the Mac. Double-click on the Mac's hard drive icon to open its window.
Double-click on the "Applications" folder to open its window.
Scroll down to the "Utilities" folder. Double-click on "Utilities" to open its window.
Scroll down to "Disk Utility." Double-click on "Disk Utility" to launch the program.
Select the Xbox hard drive from the list of choices presented in the left column of the "Disk Utility" program. Select the "Erase" tab at the top middle of the "Disk Utility" program.
Name the Xbox hard drive in the "Name" column at the center of the "Disk Utility" program.
Click the "Erase" button at the lower-right corner of the "Disk Utility" program. Click "Erase" in the confirmation window that pops up. Quit the "Disk Utility" program after the Xbox hard drive has been formatted to work with the Mac.
Putting the Xbox Hard Drive Into a PC Desktop
Turn off the PC. Remove the power cord from the desktop.
Remove the screws from the sides of the PC with the Phillips screwdriver.
Grab hold of both sides of the PC's outer case. Remove the outer case from the tower using your hands.
Push the control tab on the Xbox's hard drive from "Master" to "Slave" using the tip of the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Remove the screws from around the hard drive tray inside of the PC's drive bay with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Pull the hard drive tray out of the PC's drive bay. Remove the screws from both sides of the hard drive tray with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Place the Xbox hard drive, front end first, onto the hard drive tray. Attach the screws to both sides of the hard drive tray with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Pull the power cable and ribbon data cable out of the PC's drive bay.
Plug the short power cable into the power cable connector on the back of the Xbox hard drive. Plug the long ribbon data cable into the ribbon data cable connector on the back of the Xbox hard drive.
Put the hard drive tray back into the PC desktop or tower's drive bay. Reattach the screws holding the hard drive tray to the PC's drive bay with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Put the outer case back onto the PC. Reattach the screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Plug in the PC's power cord.
Turn the PC on. Wait for the icon of the Xbox hard drive to appear on the desktop.
Right-click on the icon of the Xbox hard drive. Select "Format" from the pop-up menu. Name the Xbox hard drive in the "Name" column of the window that appears.
Click the "Format" button. Click "Format" on the confirmation window that appears. Click "OK" on the confirmation window that appears when the formatting is done.
