How to Connect an Xbox 360 to a PC With an Ethernet Cable

Like many other Microsoft products, the Xbox 360 has numerous media sharing and compatibility options with other Microsoft devices such as Windows-based PCs and Zune players. The console can connect to a PC via Ethernet cable. This type of connection allows the Xbox 360 to take advantage of numerous options, such as network bridging, which means the two devices share an Internet connection, or media sharing.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Xbox 360 console before removing any network adapter. It is OK to leave the PC on during this process.

    • 2

Disconnect a wireless networking adapter from your Xbox 360 console if applicable. The wireless networking adapter may interfere with Ethernet connections because it becomes the primary network connector once configured.

    • 3

Plug a Cat5e or Cat 6 cable into the rear of the Xbox 360 console. The Ethernet port is located next to the audio-video ports.

    • 4

Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet port on your PC.

    • 5

Turn on the Xbox 360 console. After a few moments, your PC should recognize the local area network in the taskbar. The local area network represents the connection between the Xbox 360 and the PC.
