  1. How To Fix The USB Port On An Xbox 360

    • 1

Turn off your Xbox 360 console properly. Let the console power down for 10 seconds and then unplug the power cable from the wall and the power outlet on the back of the console. Unplug all devices from your console, such as controllers or MP3 players.

    • 2

Turn on your Xbox 360 and let it load up. Take your controller and plug it into the USB port of the console. Make sure that the USB cable is plugged in properly and there is no slack from the end of the cable to the port. Push the end of the cable in gently so the USB connectors are all the way into the port.

    • 3

Check the USB cable going from the device to the USB port on the Xbox 360 console to make sure that there aren't any shorts in the wiring. If the controller still does not work, use a different device to see if there are problems. You can use a flash drive that has been formatted for the Xbox 360 or a device that has worked previously with your system.

    • 4

Determine whether or not the device that you are trying to use with the console needs an external power supply. Plug the power supply to the device into the wall before you plug it into the power outlet of the device to get proper electrical-current flow.

    • 5

Determine whether the device you are trying to use with the Xbox 360's USB port is drawing too much power. Some devices are not compatible with the console and the USB port is designed to automatically shut off when such a device is connected.

    • 6

Use the device on a computer to make sure that it works properly with another source. If all of these options have been exhausted, you may need to send the Xbox 360 to Microsoft for repair.
