How to Repair Error Code E74 on the XBox 360

The E74 error is a known issue for XBox 360 consoles and occurs due to "hardware failure," according to Microsoft. During an E74 error, you will see "E74" on your screen and will have three flashing red lights on your console. As far as what you can do to repair your Xbox, it is recommended that you send it to Microsoft for repairs. Due to this issue, Microsoft has even extended the warranty for this problem for up to three years in order to fairly deal with the issue. Thankfully, the process of getting your console repaired is an easy one.

  Go to Microsoft's XBox 360 Support Solutions page (see link under Resources). Click on "Console Management."

  Click on "Repair Your Console." You will now be required to put in your Windows Live ID and XBox 360 gamer tag to continue. If you don't have one, you will have create a new ID.

  Enter your serial number first on the repair request form. Your serial number is located on the back of the console beside the barcode. Then enter your name and contact information.

  Click "Submit" and Microsoft should respond to your request within days. You can check the status of the repair request by returning to the Support page.
