How to Connect a Wireless XBox 360 Controller to a Computer

It only makes sense that a wireless Xbox 360 controller would work with a computer. After all, it's made by computer giant Microsoft. While the wired version of the controller simply plugs right into a USB port and is playable on a computer right out of the box, this isn't the case with a wireless controller. However, you can use it on your computer with a wireless gaming receiver.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later and a USB 2.0 port
  • Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows

Instructions

    • 1

Install your wireless gaming receiver on your computer. Insert the CD that came with the game to your CD drive and follow the install wizard until it's installed.

    • 2

Plug your wireless gaming receiver into a USB 2.0 port on your computer. If you connected it correctly, a green light on the receiver will go on.

    • 3

Turn on your wireless XBox 360 controller by pressing the large Xbox guide button located on the middle of the controller.

    • 4

Connect your controller to your computer. You connect the controller to the receiver in much the same way as you would to an Xbox 360. Press the connect button on the receiver. When you do, the green light will flash. Then press the connect button on the top of the controller. The Xbox guide button will flash as it connects. When it stops flashing and has a light on in one of the quadrants, it is connected.
