How to Fix a Scratched XBox 360 Disk

The Xbox 360 utilizes the DVD format for its games, and like any DVD disk, they can get scratched, which might cause it to stop working. This is what happens when a DVD disk is scratched--the system laser attempts to read information stored in the disk, but skips over the scratched areas, causing slight interruptions to lockups. Scratches on the Xbox 360 disc make data non-accessible unless the game disk can be repaired.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe all dust off the game disk using a clean, dry paintbrush. Afterwards, test the game disk by inserting it in your Xbox 360 game system and turning the system on. Move on to step 2 if it continues to not work.

    • 2

Polish the game disk using a vertical motion, polishing from the inside of the disk by the center hole, to the outside edges, with a clean eyeglass cloth. Do not use a circular motion while polishing. If this does not work, move on to step 3.

    • 3

Place some glass cleaner on the eyeglasses cloth and repeat the polishing process. Dry, then test the disk. Move on to step 4 if this does not work.

    • 4

Put a small amount of liquid car wax on the eyeglass polishing cloth, polish the Xbox 360 game disk utilizing the same motion from steps 3 and 4. Small scratches in the disk will get filled in by the wax, smoothing the surface and allowing the Xbox 360 CD laser eye to scan the disk without skipping.
