Kinect Dance Games
The "Just Dance" series and the "Dance Central" series are two of the flagship games for Kinect. Both put a dancer on the screen and then stream while you attempt to match the motions of the dancer. The on-screen guide shows you how to perform certain motions, and there are varying levels of difficulty, depending on your experience. While the games may be too simple for you if you're a trained dancer, they're one way to learn some basic dance moves if you are new to dance.
Fitness
One aspect of the Kinect that can make you a better dancer is its focus on health. Dancing is a great workout for the mind and body; the more fit you are, the better dancer you'll be. Stamina, strength and flexibility can all be gained and maintained through workouts, including those on Kinect games. Instead of lounging in a chair to play a video game, you're on your feet and moving -- many people even work up a sweat.
Dance Styles
You are limited to practicing styles of dance that are supported by Kinect games. This means that if you're more interested in learning salsa, classical ballet or tap dancing, you won't be able to improve with Kinect. The dancing styles Kinect offers are based on fast motion, no accessories and individual forms, and are more hip-hop than ballroom.
Social Activity
Whether or not you improve your form and dance moves by using Kinect, it will help you have fun dancing with your friends. The more fun you're having while you dance, the more likely you are to keep up a new routine. In addition, watching your friends shake and shimmy in front of your television makes it a more social activity than practicing alone in a studio.
