Maximum Hard Drive Space for the Xbox 360

Everything on your Xbox 360 requires hard drive space. Whether it̵7;s the free apps you use to watch movies and listen to music, the actual media you download for later viewing or the save files and settings for your games, the Xbox 360̵7;s hard drive is doing the storage work. Knowing which hard drive options are available to you will help in choosing which Xbox 360 model is best for you.
  1. Console Versions

    • At the time of publication, Microsoft offered three basis Xbox 360 packages: A $299.99 model that includes a Kinect motion sensor and a 4GB hard drive, a basic $199.99 model with a 4GB hard drive and a premium edition priced at $299.99 with a 250GB hard drive. Of the official, standalone Microsoft consoles, the 250GB package represents the most storage available.

    Special Editions

    • Every so often, Microsoft will release a special edition Xbox 360 bundle. These bundles normally include a console along with a current or new popular game. The special edition bundle at the time of publication offers a 250GB hard drive along with ̶0;Batman: Arkham City̶1; and ̶0;Darksiders II.̶1; Other bundles, offered in the past, have different stats -- the limited edition ̶0;Gears of War 3̶1; bundle included a special console with a 320GB hard drive.

    Upgrading the Hard Drive

    • The Xbox 360 has an upgradable hard drive, so if you choose to pick up one of the bundles with smaller storage space, you can always buy a separate hard drive later. The largest hard drive available for the Xbox 360, at the time of writing, is 320GB. This size of drive is available for both the original Xbox 360 design and the newer Xbox 360 Slim.

    Other Storage Options

    • If you are running out of room on your Xbox 360 hard drive and need a place to store data, you do not necessarily need to upgrade your hard drive. The Xbox 360 supports the use of USB flash drives. It̵7;s often cheaper to buy a large-space USB storage device, connect it to the Xbox 360, and offload some of your save data or media in lieu of purchasing an entirely new hard drive.
