How to Build Torches in Minecraft on Xbox

While "Minecraft" features over 100 items to craft, none is more important than the torch. You can place the torch on any surface and it is one of the few light sources at your disposal when spelunking a new cave or venturing deep underground. The materials used to create torches in the Xbox 360 version of "Minecraft" are the same as in the PC version. After gathering the materials, you can create a torch anywhere: you don't need any additional tools or items.

Instructions

  1. Gather Ingredients

    • 1

Chop down any tree in the environment to receive wood. No special tools are necessary to obtain wood.

    • 2

Open the crafting menu by pressing "X" on the Xbox 360 controller and select "Wooden Planks" from the Structures tab to craft this item. You will create two wooden planks for each piece of wood.

    • 3

Create a bundle of four sticks from two wooden boxes by selecting "Stick" from the Structures tab in the crafting menu. Each torch requires one stick to create.

    • 4

Use a stone pickaxe or higher to obtain coal, located only slightly below the earth. As each Minecraft world is randomly-generated, the location of coal differs for every player. Each torch requires one piece of coal.

    Build Torch

    • 5

Open the crafting menu by pressing "X" on your Xbox 360 controller.

    • 6

Press the "RB" button to select the "Weapons & Tools" tab.

    • 7

Select the torch to build it if you have the required ingredients. As noted earlier, it takes one stick and one piece coal to craft a bundle of four torches.
