How to Do a License Transfer on Xbox

Purchasing and downloading any digital item on your Xbox 360 creates a local license on that console, enabling you to use downloaded items while offline or share those items with other users of the console. When you purchase a new Xbox 360, or repair a previously owned one, you must transfer your local content licenses to the new console, which is a free process you can do directly from your Xbox 360. You must have an Internet connection to your Xbox 360 to do a license transfer. In addition, you can only transfer your licenses once every four months.

     Select the "Settings" tab of your Xbox 360 dashboard and select "Account."

     Select "License Transfer" in the Your Billing Options menu.

     Press "A" to begin the license transfer. Once complete, press "A" again to view your download history. You will need to download previously purchased software again to update the licenses.

     Select the item you want to download and select "Download Again." Download all previously purchased items to complete the license transfer process.
