How to Disassemble a Hitachi GDR-8050L

The Hitachi GDR-8050L hard drive is most commonly found in Xbox consoles manufactured in September, 2004 and later. The video game news website Xbox Scene states that the hard drive is compatible with writeable and rewritable DVDs, often referred to as DVD+R and DVD-RW, respectively. However, users have reported that the drive cannot recognize data on some recordable CDs, often referred to a CD-Rs. You can take apart a Hitachi GDR-8050L to attempt a repair, such as fixing a stuck disc tray or replacing the spindle motor, but you will void the warranty.
