How to Flash a Lite-On 83850C Jungle Flasher

The Xbox360 console uses a DVD disk drive device to run movies, games and any other Xbox compatible disk. Although the console is made by Microsoft, they outsource many of the parts, including the DVD drive to other manufacturers. Lite-On supplies the DVD drive for many of these consoles. When the drive works properly there are no issues with its compatibility with Xbox360 products, but when the drive needs updated firmware it can cause error-read messages. By flashing a Lite-On 83850 model with Jungle Flasher you install all the latest drive firmware and eliminate the errors. But to flash the drive you need to connect the Lite-On DVD drive to the computer, which requires opening the Xbox console.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips-head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the Xbox 360 from the power outlet and remove all cables that connect to it. Remove the hard drive by pressing down slightly on the top of the console and pulling it out.

    • 2

Turn the console over so the bottom faces-up. Press the release button on the back plate to pull the face plate up and off. Insert the flat edge of a screwdriver in the tabs you see through the back vent plate. Apply slight pressure to the screwdriver while pulling up the vent plate. Wiggle the plate from left to right to easily dislodge it.

    • 3

Return the Xbox to its original front position and locate the top tabs as you did the bottom. These are located near the hard drive tray and through the side vent holes. Insert the small flat edge of the screwdriver to slip the tabs out while pulling up on the vent plate. Locate the tabs under the Xbox rubber feet and push these in as well to finish loosening the plate.

    • 4

Lay the Xbox on its side so that the A/C port faces up. Locate the seven tabs that hold the sides of the case. Push the tabs in with the screwdriver to release them. Pull the side panels up and out to release them from the console.

    • 5

Insert the Torx screwdriver to remove the protective inner metal casing of the console. Locate the DVD drive and the data cable connector on the back-end of the drive. Disconnect the cable by pulling it straight out from the DVD drive.

    • 6

Disconnect the desktop tower from the power outlet. Remove all the cable connections and turn the tower so the back faces you. Remove the Phillips-head screws holding the right-side panel. Remove all the screws if the panel is a one piece unit. Slide the panel back and off the computer.

    • 7

Locate the SATA data cable running from the motherboard to the DVD/CD device in your computer. Detach this cable from the port on the DVD device.

    • 8

Move the Xbox console as close to the computer tower as you can. Connect the cable you disconnected from the computer to the back port of the DVD device in the Xbox console. This is the port where you removed the Xbox data cable. Reconnect the computer power cable and any other cables you need to operate it.
