Power down the PC. Open the side of its case and detach the the Molex power cable power lead from the DVD drive. Run the lead out of the case.
Make sure the power switch on the connectivity kit is set to "Off." Connect the ribbon power cable from the connectivity kit to the rear of the 78FK. Connect the SATA cable from the rear of the 78FK to the SATA card on the PC.
Connect the Molex cable to the connectivity card. Flip the PC's connectivity kit switch to "On." The LEDs on the drive and connectivity kit should light.
Install and launch iPrep. Click on the "SATA Info" drop-down box in the lower half of the iPrep window. Select the name and manufacturer of your SATA card in the box. Click on the "?" button next to the box and a pop-up box will appear displaying the "Full Device Information." Make a note of the first four digits of the number next to "DeviceIO."
Download and install PortIO32. Double-click the "PortIO32.exe" to run it. This will install the PC drivers for Windows. When the process finishes, right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties." In the pop-up window, click the "Device Manager" button. Expand the "I/O Devices" tree and check for the "PortIO32 - Xbox 360 Device Driver."
Click the Start button. Click "Run," type "CMD" in the pop-up box. A black and white DOS prompt window will appear. You need to have a "C:\>" prompt.
Flip the switch on the connectivity switch to "Off" and type "mode b XXXX" where XXXX is the four-digit code you retrieved from iPrep earlier. If your code was "C282," type "mode b C282" (minus the quotes) and press Enter.
When the progress dots start to appear under the command, flip the connectivity kit switch to "On." The message "Done!" will appear. Your drive is now in Mode B.
