How to Fix an Open Tray on an Xbox

The Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360 are video game consoles that allow users to play games. The games are stored on Xbox game discs and inserted into the console through the use of a disc tray. If you find that your Xbox's disc tray will not close, you can try some simple methods to make it close.

  Remove any discs from the open disc tray. Press firmly on the outer edges of your console's faceplate to ensure the faceplate is not loose as this could be holding your disc tray in place.

  Press the "Eject" button on the console. If the tray closes when you press the button, try opening and closing the tray with a disc inside. Make sure the disc is not sticky and has no labels that could interfere with the closing of the tray.

  Gently move the tray up and down, then from side to side. Afterward, try pressing the "Eject" button again. If the tray still won't close, you must contact Microsoft and order a repair.
